Sen. Deb Fischer (R-NE) is the second most senior Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee (or SASC), which puts her in line to lead the panel in the near future (if Republicans reclaim control of the Senate).
But, like SASC Chair Jack Reed (D-RI) and Ranking Member Roger Wicker (R-MS), Fischer isn’t investigating UFO whistleblower David Grusch’s claims.
“No. I’m no help to you,” Fischer told Ask a Pol over the summer.
Fischer told us to go ask Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, so we floated our (TOTALLY MADE UP!) theory to her that former Majority Leader Harry Reid likely passed over his number two, Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) as his replacement because he refused to investigate UFOs.
“Yes. See, I'm curious if [Democratic Whip] Dick Durbin said ‘No, I won’t’ and that's why Schumer got leader,” I joke to Fischer. “I'm kidding.”
“What if he did? Never know,” Fischer laughs. “But Schumer’s been on it for a couple years. I mean, Reid’s been gone since, what, 2014. Yeah, he’s been on it since.”
Rough transcript of Ask a Pol’s exclusive interview with Sen. Deb Fischer, slightly edited for clarity.
TRANSCRIPT
Matt Laslo: “I have a random question. Have you heard of this UAP-UFO whistleblower David Grusch?”
Deb Fischer: “No. I’m no help to you.”
ML: “No? No help to me? Fair.”
DF: “A UFO thing, you have to talk to Schumer about it if it’s UFOs.”
ML: “I know, but I just heard from Gillibrand that Schumer is kind of taking the mantle from Harry Reid and not truly invested.”
DF: “Yeah, he really seems to have.”
ML: “Yes. See, I'm curious if [Democratic Whip] Dick Durbin said ‘No, I won’t’ and that's why Schumer got leader. I'm curious. I'm kidding.”
DF: “What if he did? Never know. But Schumer’s been on it for a couple years. I mean, Reid’s been gone since, what, 2014. Yeah, he’s been on it since.”
ML: “Yeah. Over here starting rumors. Have a good one ma’am!”
